Screening metal powders without quality loss

Screening metal powders without quality loss

Metal powders require a highly controlled screening process. The particles are often fine, valuable and sensitive to contamination or quality deviations. At the same time, separation must remain reproducible, even with tight tolerances.

Why metal powders are challenging

Many metal powders have a fine particle size distribution and a high value per kilogram. Every loss counts, and separation must be as consistent as possible.

Dust control, product purity and possible ATEX-related requirements often also play an important role in the overall design.

Critical selection points

With metal powders, it is important to look closely at the cut point, desired product purity and risk of mesh blinding. The cleaning system and machine surface finish must also fit the application.

For very fine fractions, ultrasonic support can be a logical addition to keep the screen surface active and the quality stable.

  • Minimize product loss with valuable powders.
  • Prevent cross-contamination and unwanted particle ingress.
  • Test finer meshes under real process conditions.

Pay attention to product handling and containment

Separation is not the only factor; how the product moves through the machine also matters. Unnecessary aggression or open product transfers can be undesirable in critical processes.

A good solution therefore looks beyond the mesh: feed, sealing, discharge and cleaning all belong in the total design.

Work from testing and specifications

Metal powders usually require a careful test phase. Only then can you assess whether the desired particle size distribution, capacity and cleanability are achievable together in practice.

Clear specifications make it easier to choose a screening solution that is both technically and operationally correct.
